Saint Michael church

This  is the Saint Michael church in Vilnius. In 1948, after the communist authorities had closed Saint Michael church, the original painting of the Divine Mercy was lodged at the Holy Spirit church, where the parish priest, Father Jan Ellert, was not interested in keeping the picture. It was then that a priest named Józef Grasewicz, Fr Sopocko’s friend, took it from there to the parish church in Nowa Ruda. The picture remained there for forty years, despite many changes in the church administration.
